The double acronym in R.O.C.K. reflects the twofold purpose of ROCK International:
Relief, Opportunity, and Care for Kids (ROCKids) & Resources Of Crucial Knowledge (ROCK Resources). The four reports below are updates from those serving children in connection with ROCKids:
Tanzania: Just in from Tumaini Jipya (Swahili for “New Hope”) Girls’ Secondary School on Ukerewe Island in Lake Victoria. “Form 4 (12th grade) recently did a regional ‘mock’ national exam and Tumaini Jipya girls were the highest performing in the district. All students scored ‘Division 1’, the highest possible level. Staff and students continue regular devotions, including Saturday ‘Community Bible Studies,’ where they are working through KING of GLORY and another book that teaches them how to study the Bible. These interactive studies encourage questions and discussion. The students continue to grow in their faith and learn what it means to follow Christ faithfully in every area of life.”
Senegal: “Here in our village, amid difficult economic conditions, we thank God for many opportunities to invest in young lives through sports ministry. During the school holidays, children continue to fill the basketball court, where biblical values are taught alongside athletic skills. Pray that Christ’s love shown through these initiatives, relationships, and the power of God’s Word will draw many to the Savior. Pray too for our church’s children’s camp (August 4–8), where some village kids will attend.”
Niger: “Since July 2023, Niger has been under military rule, significantly changing how foreign workers can serve. Yet we praise God that His work is not bound by governments, for He rules over all. The Youth Center continues to serve children and youth through Christ-centered music, computer, and soccer programs that provide practical skills and the hope of the gospel. Pray that God will use these relationships and the faithful witness of local believers to draw many to Himself.”
South Asia: “God continues to provide a unique opportunity to serve at a school in South Asia among the world’s largest unreached people group. The school is approximately 85% Muslim and 10% Hindu. Academics, athletics, and the arts provide meaningful access, resulting in daily conversations about truth and the Gospel. One young man frequently comes to my office and consistently leaves shaking his head, saying, ‘But I just don’t see why God would choose to humble Himself in that way!’ (on the cross). The challenges are real, including terrorism, gov’t red tape, and opposition to the gospel; yet God continues to use such difficulties to serve His purposes and the advance of the gospel.”
